Baby stuff

So I've been trying to convince Dave that "Lorelei" is a great girl's name. He says it's too WB. Whatever could he mean by that? I amped up the pushiness about it this weekend, and after suffering through a mini-dissertation on the meaning and mythology behind it this morning, he threw his hands up in the air and said "FINE. IT'S FINE. WHATEVER. GO AHEAD." For the record, Marta Kristen's is the first Lorelei that ever made an impression on me, not Lauren Graham's. Frankly, it would only be fitting for us to name our daughter after a character in a Frankie and Annette beach movie. Well, actually, it would be fitting for me I guess. Dave would obviously just be putting up with it. It's probably not much of an improvement over the inspirations behind our other name choices: Annie (Little Orphan Annie), Dale (Terry and the Pirates), Veronica (Archie Comics), Chocolat Meilleure (Sugar Sugar Rune). I read a lot of high literature over here.

I've been trying to figure out what we need to buy to prepare for the impending arrival of a certain Lorelei/Dale/Chocolat Meilleure and there's not too much. Fortunately babies aren't too tough on baby things what with all of the laying around and fussing that they do, so most of Henry's stuff survived relatively unscathed. The major exception is the stroller which was, by the end of it's two-year tenure, held together by duct tape. It was rendered completely useless one fateful day when Henry grabbed the cup holder/safety bar thingy, yanked it up with all of his might, and broke it in half. That was the end of that. It's just as well we get a second chance at a stroller because the one we chose for Henry was too short for both myself and Dave, and also its sad little wheels didn't navigate the uneven sidewalks of the 'burg very well. I've gotten to test drive a few different models thanks to everyone I know owning a different kind of stroller, so that's helped me narrow it down to one in particular. Naturally it's expensive, but probably worth it.

The only other things we need are new baby bottles (we're going old skool glass because we're cool like that) and we're switching to biodegradable/flushable gdiapers instead of Pampers. I still haven't purchased any little girl outfits. (Did you hear that? That was Dave, sighing with relief.) I was talking to a friend about it a couple of weeks ago and she reminded me that babies don't wear anything other than sleep dresses and those kimono shirts early on anyway, so who cares? She's totally right. Besides, I bet I'll be totally inspired once I actually meet Chocolat for the first time. (Did you hear that? That was Dave canceling my debit card.)

Hi Jenn,

What's the name and brand of the stroller?
www.albeebaby.com has great deals: free shipping, no tax, and items on sales :)
REI is having 20% off on BOB jogger.

Agathe (Proud and happy owner of many strollers :)
Just ask Kevin... The happy papa buyer :)

I am WAY jealous you are going to get gDiapers with all the new colors. I am trying to come up with a reason why Mette needs new ones so I can buy her some of the pink ones!! Right now she is just wearing all Otto's hand me downs.

p.s. I love Lorelie

Thanks for the stroller links! We're thinking of getting the phil and ted Classic. It looks pretty similar to the BOB stroller. Hmmm...

Phoebe, you can't help it if a couple of gdiapers "accidentally" fly out the window of your car, or otherwise "disappear"...

Princess Lorelei will need some pretty, new outfits. Even if all she does is sleep in and spit up on them. She will have Dave wrapped around her tiny little finger in no time. :)

And, even if she doesn't, you and Lorelei will have him bullied into a corner soon enough! Poor Dave. Poor Henry. Hopefully, they won't learn how to retaliate...at least not with as much creativity as the ladies!

I think Lorelei is a beautiful name (as is Annie). Paul is a very laid back guy about almost everything but NOT names. It wouldn't matter how pushy I was, if he didn't love a name he'd never say "fine" to it.

I wanted to do cloth diapers - so much nicer for the environment, and if I did I would have used gdiapers, but they cost a lot more than Walmart brand so the penny pincher in me won out - unfortunately for the environment. Good for you!

I've not seen anyone use glass bottles. I guess you have no worries with BPA or anything along those lines with that choice! If we have another baby I hope he/she doesn't have any bottles and just nurses since Nadia weaned herself off of me 5 months before I planned to wean her.

Finally, I hope you do end up with some cute girl clothes for your little princess. Ah yes the practical thing to do is just use the hand me downs from Henry, but girl clothing is just SOOOO cute! Even little sleepers can be just plain adorable. :-)

i like the flying out the window idea...

also, the small gDiapers last for about 5 minutes, I have 6, which megan has now, you are welcome to them if you want. Then you can splurge on the med. which last a long time.

Phoebe is not joking. Jack wore them for literally 3 days. So, I have all of mine and all of Phoebe's. I will bring them over when you are ready and not a moment sooner! Perhaps when Lorelei is a few weeks old, you might be ready for some of this gear!

So the consensus is: Lorelei's a great name and I need to go out and buy some girl's clothes. Awesome! Thanks ladies! I can't believe how silent Dave has been in the comments.

Also, thanks for lending me the smalls, Megan and Phoebe. I'll go ahead and buy the mediums.

I'm planning on bringing you a large box of baby girl clothing. I'll schedule my visit in advance so Dave can be there. :) Yes, surprising how quiet Dave has been...

there is no doubt about it, girls clothes rock!

ok ok ok ok

Lorelei, bore-elei, snore-elei. Too many syllables, lousy alliteration, and yes, it really is too WB...

I have some mediums you can have.
