Top ten reasons why today was so great

1. Henry slept through the night last night so I woke up feeling well-rested. This is in direct contrast to yesterday morning, which succeeded the first night of Henry's first cold. He didn't sleep well and neither did we. Also, the lack of sleep Friday night doused any spark of desire we may have been fanning for a second kid.

2. Some friends that I haven't seen in a while came over for lunch.

3. Because the aforementioned friends were coming over for lunch, I had to clean the apartment.

4. Because I had to clean the apartment, I was procrastinating by watching tv and discovered a program on PBS about the legend of Amazon warrior women. It was really interesting.

5. Because Megan and I are totally mentally connected, she called right after I had cleaned the bathroom but before I had vacuumed, thus helping me procrastinate. Really, you couldn't ask for a better friend.

6. Noshing on Christmas cookies all day. Yesterday my mom and I had our Christmas cookie-making marathon. Lots of sampling went on throughout the process, and Dave and I came home with two huge tins full that my mom laughably assumed would still have cookies in them by the end of the week. Ha!

7. Tonight is the annual viewing of "White Christmas". We bought the dvd last month to replace our old vhs copy. I can't wait to see it in widescreen. Really. I can't wait. Is that sad?

8. Steak tips and brussel sprouts for dinner while watching "White Christmas". Yum!

9. By around 2:30 our friends had left and Dave and I were faced with a free afternoon for which we had no plans. We couldn't decide what to do so we stayed in. Since the apartment was clean, our holiday shopping done, grocery shopping done, and Christmas cards mailed, there was nothing left on the to-do list for me to obsess over. I was actually able to sit back and relax and hang out with my family. It was a beautiful thing.

10. I get to resume the burning down of our advent candle.

Top ten list Christmas 2005

We had a somewhat insane holiday season this year. This came as a slight surprise to me since we decided to spend Christmas at home, opting to head down to Virginia on the 26th instead of a few days ahead of the holiday. Some highlights of the holiday season were (in no particular order):

10. The cookie exchange my mom and I did via USPS. We ate her (dozens of) cookies in under three days.
9. Henry rolled over from his tummy to his back.
8. Blinies at the Mulligan's Christmas morning.
7. Eating every single one of the waffle cookies that Dave's mom had in the house, including the ones in the freezer.
6. Henry rolling over from his back to his tummy, something he is now compelled to do when he's placed on his back on any flat surface.
5. The Print Gocco printer my parents got me for Christmas.
4. Falling on my butt while bowling. In front of a group of teenagers. Boy were my cheeks red. Ha ha ha! Get it?
3. Lots of coke icee's from 7-11. It doesn't take much to thrill me.
2. Being able to hand Henry off to lots of relatives so I could go take lots of naps.
1. My "Reading is Sexy" t-shirt.

Believe it or not, despite all the cookie eating, I (mercifully) didn't gain any weight this year. And, although the holiday's are over, here's a picture taken Christmas morning featuring me with Henry, who's sporting a Santa suit:

Top ten things that have or will be going on

Wow, I haven't updated in a while. A lot has been going on. Here's a top ten list of things that have happened or will be happening:

10. My mom and I have decided to do a Christmas cookie exchange via the USPS. Some we both have to make ourselves, but those we don't, we split unevenly (she gets to bake more because I have a kid).
9. I've started knitting again. Perhaps I'll finish some of my unfinished projects.
8. Dave informed me that I am my mother, because of all of the unfinished projects I have.
7. My parents and I agreed that we would not exchange presents this year because it's too much to handle, and who needs presents when there's all the familial love going on.
6. Henry discovered he's got hands, and boy, do they taste good.
5. The last day of classes for Dave is next Monday.
4. Brokeback Mountain is coming out next Friday. Megan and I were going to go see the matinee Friday afternoon but Dave found out yesterday that a student of his has to take the final during the time we would have gone. I haven't told Megan yet. I wonder if I'll get a phone call when she reads this.
3. My parents and I decided that we would exchange present because it just doesn't feel right not too.
2. Henry slept five hours for three nights in a row. Sadly that was last week. It was our Thanksgiving present from him.
1. It's snowing out. Not much, but it's enough.
